Support The Good Kitchen

My name is Danny and I am the founder of The Good Kitchen, a community kitchen in Mussomeli, in the heart of Sicily. On the 3rd of November this year I will be turning 60 and to celebrate this momentous occasion I am rallying our community together to raise 60,000 euros for The Good Kitchen. We have lots to celebrate since we launched the kitchen - we have rescued over 19 tonnes of food, delivered over 8000 cooked meals and supplied over 750 fresh food parcels to families here in the area who are facing food insecurity. We also provide volunteering opportunities for young and elderly people in the town and every Saturday we provide a free breakfast to anyone who maybe alone and want to make new friends. On Sunday we deliver cooked meals to elderly people in the town and we also have a long Sunday lunch here in the kitchen. Find out more about our results.

The primary reason why we are holding a fundraiser is to be able to provide job opportunities for the people of Mussomeli, especially young people as there is 50% youth unemployment in Sicily. We also need a van to collect and deliver the food and additional cooking equipment. The rest of the money will ensure that the kitchen is sustainable for the next 6 years. Our overheads are low, however, there are fixed running costs for the kitchen. On November the 22nd we will also be holding a workshop for young chefs to teach them the necessary skills to set up a community kitchen. Some of the funds raised will go to towards the creation of a website where we will share the learnings from the workshop and also additional content on how to set up a community kitchen.
